From A history of the old town of Stratford and the city of Bridgeport, CT - Henry Wakelee, was, probably an original proprietor of Stratford, and was there before 1650. His home lot was No. 15, indicating him to have been among the first settlers. In 1663 he was attorney before the General Court in behalf of his son James, but the matter was withdrawn from court.
In 1660 Henry was appointed to "watch over the youths or any disorderly carriages in the time of public exercises on the Lord's day or other times and see that they behave themselves comely, and note any disorderly persons by such raps or blows as he in his discretion shall see meet."
From The ancestry of Lorenzo Ackley & his wife Emma Bosworth - Henry married Sarah (Burt) widow of Judah Gregory of Springfield, Mass., and lived for a time in Hartford. He removed to Stratford and in May 1669 received a colonial grant of fifty acres, presumably for service in the Pequot War (1637), since the veterans of that war were at that period receiving such grants. In May 1681 he received a grant of 200 acres for service to the Colony in or about Mattebeseck (Waterbury). This probably refers to an expedition of 100 men who were dispatched on a punitive expedition to Mattebeseck in Aug. 1639, as a sequel to the Pequot War. Henry died before 8 Nov 1690 when his will was probated, and his will, dated 11 Jul 1689, named his wife Sarah,; sons Deliverance, James and Jacob; unmarried daughters Patience and Abigail; gave five sheep to Thomas Lattin, a cow to Elizabeth Squire, a cow to daughter Mary Stevens, and a cow to Henry Summers who lived with him.
