Mustered out at New Orleans, La, Aug 20, 1865. The 1890 Veterans census states that Martin enlisted Aug 12,
1861 and was discharged Aug 12, 1862.
Military Note: One day, while on
scouting duty, Martin found himself surrounded by Confederate soldiers.
He was able to hide in a hollow log until after they had left the vicinity and
was thus able to escape capture.
