Samuel was a boot and shoemaker in New York.  He came to Michigan in 1846 from Milton, Saratoga Co, New York and settled in Waterloo, Jackson Co, Michigan.  He was a farmer.  Samuel and Sarah had eight children of which only four were still alive in 1890 when the biographical sketch on his son-in-law, Donald McIntyre, was published.  The living children were Isaac, William, Sarah and Olive.  He was a Presbyterian and a Whig/Republican.     - from Portrait and Biographical Album of Ingham & Livingston Counties, W.C.
