Zadock Hawkins  

Birth: 06 OCT 1759  New Milford, Litchfield Co, Connecticut

Enlisted:  MAY 1777  In the 6th Connecticut Regiment of the American Army
Note:  Zadock enlisted for the duration of the Revolutionary War, joining his father who had enlisted three months earlier and his brother, William Wilmot Hawkins, who had enlisted in November 1776, all three serving for a time in the same regiment.  The company Zadock served in was commanded first by Capt. Eli Leavenworth and later by Capt. David Humphries, under regimental command of Col. Return Jonathan Meigs.  His service was credited to the town of Derby, Connecticut.

Left Army:  1779  Disappeared from Connecticut
Note:  About 3 months after Zadock joined the army, his brother William deserted and became a loyalist.  Two months later, his father died while still in service.  Zadock was sick and suffered terribly as did most of the soldiers in this war.
