Henry Spencer Worthington moved to Hartland Twp, Livingston Co, Michigan with his family in 1842. In those days it took three days to move from Detroit to Hartland by ox team. He lived in Handy Twp from early 1865 to spring of 1888 and then moved to Hope, Midland Co, Michigan. “He was a very peculiar man and rather eccentric in life but a man of strict honesty and integrity and upright in all dealings with his fellowman. He was a great leader and always kept posted on the questions of the day. He was an ardent Democrat and held various offices in the gift of the township at various times.” He was Township School Inspector and Justice of the Peace several times in both Handy and Hartland Twps and a member of the Livingston County Pioneer Society.
