A violent storm came up and he and was shipwrecked (with his brother John) off the coast of Rhode Island. He delivered the papers to Governor Winslow of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and did not return to England. His wife and won, Thomas, died and he later married into Governor Winslow’s family.
